3 SUMMER ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DRIVE TO NEAR WEST COVINA, CA

1. GOT SNEAKERS? SHOE DRIVE!

Raid your closets and find those old shoes you don’t need anymore. They will all be recycled and the money raised will go toward the youth of the city who are in need. Plus it will benefit the Senior Center. The event will be held on Saturday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. Come out to the Cortez Park Community & Senior Center, located at 2501 E. Cortez St.

The shoe drive is hosted by the GSGV Rotary and the City of West Covina. For more information, call 626-331-5366.

2. FREE SMART GARDENING CLASS (ADVANCED WORKSHOP)

For those who love gardening and want to improve their skills, this free workshop is sure to help you with your gardening skills. If you need compost bins, you can purchase them for a discounted price once you’ve attended the class. You can buy a regular compost bin for your backyard for $40 and a worm compost bin for $65. This will be held Saturday, June 17 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

No reservations are required, so bring your friends can come for a great learning experience. The workshop will be held at the Cortez Park Community & Senior Center at 2501 E. Cortez St.

3. 2023 SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

You’ll love being out in the open air and listening to musicians on Wednesday nights all summer long. On June 14, come out for Latin and jazz by the band, Cold Duck. On June 21, you can listen to Bruno & The Hooligans, a Bruno Mars cover band. For some R&B and soul, you’ll enjoy City Beat and the Mainstreet Horns on June 28. And on July 12, catch the musical stylings of Southland Band for country, rock, and R&B.

All the events will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the West Covina Civic Center, located at 1444 W. Garvey Ave. A DJ will entertain the crowd from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. as people grab a beverage from the beer garden, and the concerts will start at 7 p.m. Visit the city’s website for more concerts and dates.
